Welcome! I’m Kate Moyer, the owner of The Sewing Room—a cozy, creative fiber arts studio in Jenkintown, Pennsylvania.
Besides my family, my two greatest passions in life are sewing and teaching. Owning The Sewing Room truly feels like the culmination of my life’s work.
My journey into sewing began in 2012 when my mom gifted me her old sewing machine. She had just won a new one from a local quilt shop hop, and I was lucky to receive her hand-me-down. From the first few stitches, I was hooked. The rhythm of the machine, the feel of the fabric, and the symmetry of quilt-making all came together to spark a lifelong love.
I joined the Philadelphia Modern Quilt Guild, where I found a welcoming and inspiring creative community. In 2023, I launched KateKre8s, offering t-shirt quilts, memory keepsakes, longarm quilting services, and a regular commitment to community giving—especially making and donating quilts to NICUs at local hospitals.
But while sewing is my passion, teaching is my calling. With a Master’s in Educational Leadership and years of experience teaching junior high and high school, I’ve always found joy in creating nurturing, student-centered spaces—especially for kids facing unique learning challenges. Whether in a traditional classroom or a sewing studio, my goal has always been to build confidence, skill, and a love of learning.
In 2023, I began teaching at The Sewing Room part-time, eventually stepping into a management role alongside the amazing Becca Kohn. I also taught and worked at Cut and Sew PHL in Mt. Airy, deepening my connection to the local fiber arts community.
When Chelsea Sperger decided to sell The Sewing Room in 2025, I knew it was the perfect opportunity. I’m honored to carry on her legacy and continue growing a space where students of all ages can explore, create, and thrive through sewing.
At The Sewing Room, we believe in the joy of making and the power of community. I hope you’ll stop by and stitch with us!
